An Overview of Blue Hills College


The College is part of the World-wide System of Christian Education operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Education Department which has had a tradition of excellence for over 140 years.   The philosophy of education at Blue Hills College is founded upon the Christian ethic.   The College seeks to develop the intellectual, social, physical and spiritual dimension of each child and to provide educational excellence in a caring environment.  Enrolment is open to families of all religious persuasions who have regard for the Christian ethos and culture of the school.  Prospective parents are most welcome to visit or phone the school and discuss their child's education with the Principal.

The Learning Environment


Blue Hills College offers an outstanding, open and spacious environment for learning in its 12 hectare rural setting. The campus incorporates both primary and secondary school classroom facilities, sporting grounds, a computer room which gives students exposure to PC technology. Students benefit from an excellent transport system to and from the school and continuity of education from Pre-Kindergarten through to the Year 12 by 2010. A transition class for pre-Kindergarten children runs from July to December of each year.

Academic Excellence


Blue Hills College sets a high academic standard and this is reflected in the School Certificate results which are consistently well above the state average.  The College also performs extremely well in the Australia wide academic competitions for English, Mathematics and Science. 
We provide a broad, comprehensive curriculum in all the Board of Studies key learning areas, with emphasis on literacy, numeracy, science and technology. 


A Personalised Program


Smaller High School classes allow the school to provide a personalised, supportive educational environment for students.   Blue Hills College is noted for its caring Christian environment and its excellent academic results.   The school is committed to helping every child reach their full potential.  The Staff at Blue Hills College are well credentialed and are specialists in their subject area.   The teachers have a good caring relationship with the students and they promote a positive learning environment.   The College provides a support teacher for those students with special need.

Student Responsibility


The development of student responsibility is an integral part of the education process.  Students are encouraged to develop leadership qualities through their participation on the Student Representative Council which gives all students the opportunity to express their views and ideas on College matters.  Students are additionally able to undertake positions of responsibility including College Captains, Prefects, Library Assistants, Bus Monitors, and Sports Team (House) Captains.

College Sport


Students participate in physical education classes as well as in a weekly sports program.   Blue Hills College is also a member of the North Coast Sports Association.   This involves the College competing in a number of different sports including soccer, hockey, touch football, netball, swimming and athletics.   Students are chosen from those competitions to go to Sydney and represent the region in the NSW State Competitions.   Blue Hills College has traditionally excelled in these competitions.

Extra-Curricula Program

Extra-Curricular activities include:
(a) College Choir, College Band, North Coast Independent Schools Sports Association, 
(b) Inter School SDA Sports : Swimming , Athletics, Team Sports, 
(c) Social activities such as; Pathfinder Clubs,  Japanese Cultural Hosting Program, Student Representative Council,
(d) Spiritual programs such as the annual week/s of Spiritual Emphasis and Church visitation.

Transport


Blue Hills College offers an excellent transport system  to its students with buses covering all main routes.  Bus safety is important to the College.  Each bus drops the students off at the start of the day and picks them up at the end of the day from within the school grounds.  At the College, teachers are on duty to ensure student safety whilst on the buses, appointed Bus Monitors ensure that student behaviour is appropriate at all times .
